Science Lead & Year 6 Teacher, Gryffindors

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Chinese Proverb

I started working at Freshwaters as a Newly Qualified Teacher back in 2014 and have taught mainly in Key Stage 2. After carrying out my PGCE I spent a year as a supply teacher and have worked in many schools. I realised when I first entered Broadfields (now Freshwaters) that there was something very special about the school, a family feel. I now could not imagine being anywhere else.

I graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Environmental Science, specialising in hydrology. My love of science started when I was at primary school, where I had some amazing opportunities and experiences with experimenting and field work. As Science Lead at Freshwaters it is my aim for all children to be given the opportunity to develop a love for experimenting, questioning and to gain a good knowledge of how the world around them works.

Before teaching I spent many years in retail management. I spent a year travelling around the world and working for a while in Australia. After having my son I volunteered in a school and realised that I loved working with children, so I decided to go back to university and do a PGCE at the University of East London.

I am kept quite busy at home with my 2 year old daughter and my 12 year old son. When I have time I love to read and I am in a book club with some friends. I enjoy gardening, photography and, when I get the chance, I love to watch stand-up comedy.
